Ekeyokon Pathways is a youth-led community initiative based in Lolachat Subcounty, Nabilatuk District in Karamoja, Uganda. We exist to empower young people through mentorship, advocacy, leadership development, education, health awareness, and community-driven action.
The name Ekeyokon means a shepherd — a symbol of guidance, protection, resilience, and community leadership. Just as a shepherd guides and protects the flock, we are committed to guiding young people toward opportunity, purpose, and a brighter future.
In many communities across Karamoja, young people continue to face challenges including poverty, school dropout, unemployment, substance abuse, limited access to mentorship, and lack of exposure to opportunities. During our 2025 community sensitization activities, medical experts highlighted that alcohol and substance abuse continues to severely affect young people across Uganda and Karamoja. Uganda records over 2.1 million people struggling with alcohol use disorder, while in Karamoja, alcohol use among adults is estimated between 65–75%, with some youth introduced to substance abuse as early as 10–14 years. These realities continue to affect education, health, family stability, and the future of many young people in our communities. At Ekeyokon Pathways, we believe every young person deserves guidance, support, dignity, and the opportunity to succeed regardless of where they come from.
Through youth mentorship, anti-drug abuse advocacy, community sensitization, leadership training, health outreach, digital literacy, and volunteer-driven initiatives, we are building a generation that is informed, resilient, empowered, and ready to transform society.
What started as a small volunteer initiative driven by passionate youth leaders and professionals is growing into a movement of hope and transformation across Karamoja.
We are not just running programs. We are building pathways to opportunity.
